Are you romancing your past?

Motivational Quote
The art of progress is to preserve order amid change and to preserve change amid order.
 (Alfred North Whitehead)

There will always be two categories of people throughout your earthly adventure. The first category is for those who think that they know you because they knew about your past. This category of people has already analyzed, categorized you and locked you up in a folder.

The mark of personal progress

Motivational Quote
Be fit for more than the thing you are now doing. Let everyone know that you have a reserve in yourself; that you have more power than you are now using. If you are not too large for the place you occupy, you are too small for it.  James A. Garfield, 1831-1881

I have not had the opportunity of meeting someone who has never made any mistakes in life. I dare say that you will know that you are making progress when you ‘fail forward’; make mistakes.

'I Want Me Back'

Motivational Quote
Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb. (Sir Winston Churchill, 1874-1965)

DO YOU LOOK back and wish you could turn the arm of the clock in your favor? Do you reminisce the days you were passionate about the career path that you took? Are you nostalgic about the days when your relationship with your spouse was at an all time romantic tide? Was there a time you enjoyed a quiet an sober mind focused into the future but now everything seems a blur?

Are you having a rough drive?

Motivational Quote
You can know the name of a bird in all the languages of the world, but when you're finished, you'll know absolutely nothing whatever about the bird... So let's look at the bird and see what it's doing -- that's what counts. I learned very early the difference between knowing the name of something and knowing something. Richard Feynman, 1918-1988

A couple of days ago, a friend allowed me to drive his mini-truck to deliver some luggage to the country side. By the time I was getting ready to drive back, darkness had already crept in. Although I got back to the city safely, I did have a rather unusual rough drive. The truck’s full lights were as good as dim lights.

The Secret of Achievement

Motivational Quote
The world is a tragedy to those who feel, but a comedy to those who think. Horace Walpole, 1717-1797

Your ability to define and isolate a specific activity that you are best suited for gives you leverage in life. I call it Focus. Focus or lack of it greatly determines the level of success that you will experience. There is absolutely no way out of narrowing down your effort into one particular thing. The achievers of yester years and those of our times are men and women who were very particular about what they wanted to accomplish in life.

“To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it, requires brains.” Mary Pettibone Poole

In the 70s, Kipchoge Keino won the world accolades as a great athlete. Four decades later, although he is still renowned for his exploits then, there are certainly other greater champions who have emerged. Even if he wanted to keep at it, there is practically no chance that he can be competitive.

How and where do you refuel your mind?

“Real confidence comes from knowing and accepting yourself –your strengths and your limitations.” Judith Barwick
Today afternoon, I went for car wash in a particular place in the western side of Nairobi. A gentleman who was driving what seemed like a brand new, elegant and beautiful Land rover drove in to refuel. Few minutes after refueling, the engine wouldn’t start. The car had to be towed from that gas station to the dealer’s place. The same thing happened to a land cruiser VX.

Motivational Quote
Courage is doing what you're afraid to do. There can be no courage unless you're scared. Eddie Rickenbacker, 1890-1973

I was driving with my five years old son yesterday from church and he asked me a question that triggered some flow of thoughts long after answering. He had asked, “Dad, my bike has breaks. Does your car has breaks?” without much thought, I simply answered, “everything that moves has breaks otherwise it would never stop.”  He quickly responded by asking whether human beings have a breaking system. Now, that question made me think for a while.

Motivational Quote
Thoughts, like fleas, jump from man to man. But they don't bite everybody.  Stanislaw Lec

More often than not, you are likely to find me in upcoming places prospecting or viewing properties during my free time. This is what I was doing last evening at Kigali. One thing that has always fascinated my mind is the fact that a piece of the earth anywhere is just but a piece of the earth. However, you will agree with me that the value of that piece of the earth is always different everywhere you go. Do you know why? I will tell you!

Turning goals into dreams

Motivational Quote
Life ought to be a struggle of desire toward adventures whose nobility will fertilize the soul. Rebecca West, 1892-1983

If you are like most people I know, you probably took some time at the beginning of this year to set goals. Chances are high that this year’s goal setting exercise was not the first one you carried out. You probably have had such exercises many times in the previous years.
